Photokina, the world’s largest photographic exhibition has two traditions. Firstly it is a biennial event, secondly that event was usually late September in Cologne. Both of those traditions have come to halt with the announcement that exhibition is to become an annual event.
To facilitate this, the last traditional Autumn Photokina will take place in 26-29th September 2018. It will then become an annual show. The first one will be 8th-11th May 2019. From then on the festival of all things photographic will take place annually in May.
The show’s press office cite the rapidly changing photographic market as the incentive to take the show to a yearly basis. As yet I have not been to a Photokina but I may well try to get to either the 2018 or 2019 event. Have you been? What was your experience?
